Top 13 Best Biker Movies of All Time by MOTO eMAG
World's Most Comprehensive List

Our Top-13 Best Biker Movies of All Time really hit home with our readers. Late '60s & '70s are considered by many to be the real Golden Age of Hollywood. The films in this selection are mostly from that era, although we also cover the granddaddy of them all, The Wild One ('53), in addition to a couple of more recent offerings such as the World's Fastest Indian. All the movies on this unique and insightful list are exceptional and are presented in no particular order.

Best Biker Movies of All Time I - Hell's Belles ('69)

This 1969 gem is a rare biker film. It's about bikers from different gangs who all love the same hot custom racer and try to steal it from one another, not to sell or trade for drugs but to ride. It maybe one of the most unique biker movies from the era. IMDB link is below.

Best Biker Movies of All Time II - Electra Glide in Blue ('73)

Before there was CHIPS, there was Electra Glide in Blue. Robert Blake got the lead in Baretta TV series because of the strength of his performance in this very unusual movie. It's been called the reverse of Easy Rider. Look for the truly amazing 8-min end credit roll and a great biker chase scene. Shot in Arizona with a homage to John Ford.

Best Biker Movies of All Time III - The Wild Angels ('66)

The lovely Laura Dern was conceived during the making of this movie by her parents Bruce Dern & Diane Ladd. It also stars Peter Fonda & Nancy Sinatra. Directed by Roger Corman, Wild Angels is credited as the first of new wave of badass biker movies. To be totally frank it's not one of my fave biker films but it's seminal due to its history, the cast and this particular quote: "We wanna be free to ride our machines without being hassled by The Man!" It's as anti-pc as you can get for '66.

Best Biker Movies of All Time IV - Dust To Glory ('05)

Fifty-five cameras, four helicopters, a four-passenger buggy camera car and a crew of over eighty people, that's what it took to make this 2005 gem. A high-octane documentary covering the most notorious and dangerous race in the world--Baja 1000. Note to dealers, this is a real crowd-pleasing movie and should be on your top list for movie nights. Best Biker Movies of All Time V - The World's Fastest Indian ('05)

Noted director Roger Donaldson made his dream a reality by creating this incredible movie about Burt Munro and Munro's 1920 Indian streamliner. Featuring Anthony Hopkins in a memorable role as Munro, this movie became an instant hit with riders all over the world. One of my fave places in the US, Bonneville Salt Flats, is also featured.

Best Biker Movies of All Time VI - The Wild One ('53)

The granddaddy of all biker films and the movie that started the negative riders' image in mainstream media and pop culture. Contrary to later biker movies that depict all riders as basically savages, Marlon Brando's gang leader persona is thoughtful, emotional and caring yet very antisocial. With Lee Marvin, The Wild One is a gem of a movie.

Best Biker Movies of All Time VII - Hells Angels on Wheels ('67)

2 years before Easy Rider, Nicholson played Poet in this movie, a nice guy who gets pulled into the gang. Sonny Barger has picked this as the most authentic depiction of the 'Angels' in movies. Jack Nicholson elevates any film that he stars in, even his early B movies. Hells Angels on Wheels is about life inside the infamous biker gang.

Best Biker Movies of All Time VIII - Born Losers ('67)

The strong and silent hero who is reluctantly forced to battle evil toward the end of the storyline is one of Hollywood's most successful clichés. But this movie has a lot more going for it. It's part of the Billy Jack series directed by the star Tom Laughlin, and it features the most unique imagery: a girl in a white bikini riding an all white Honda in SoCal. The girl is the co-writer and co-star Elizabeth James.

Best Biker Movies of All Time IX - The Hard Ride ('71)

"Baby" is a highly dressed up chopper. This is a movie made by riders and it shows. It's also one of the most romantic biker films from that era with gorgeous long scenes of Robert Fuller and Sherry Bain riding "Baby." Sherry Bain is terrific here, although the acting overall takes a back seat to the multitude of hot looking bobbers and choppers from the '60s and early '70s.

Best Biker Movies of All Time X - Easy Rider ('69)

No biker film is more deserving of a spot here than Easy Rider. This is a reverse of every biker movie plot, here the bikers are the nice guys and the towns people are brutal killers. The template for every gritty buddy road movie (including Thelma & Louis), Easy Rider not only became a mega hit but inspired a generation of Americans to jump on motorcycles and created motorcycle mania globally. We could use another gem like this just about now.

Best Biker Movies of All Time XI - On Any Sunday ('71)

Director of a popular surfing documentary "Endless Summer," backed by Steve McQueen, created one of the most successful documentaries of all time and the best docu ever made about motorcycles. On Any Sunday ran in theaters worldwide. McQueen's presence gave this docu serious star power and OAS was treated like a major movie release, instead of an indie flick about riders in SoCal.

Best Biker Movies of All Time XII - Stone ('74)

5 years before Mad Max, Stone set the groundwork for it. Both movies are titled after a lead who is a cop and feature a few of the same actors. This biker flick out of Oz shows us how the Aussies do it, on Kawa Z1s with fullface helmets. One funeral scene features 400 motorcycles. Big difference in look and feel to an American biker film and the inspiration for Mad Max, that's why it's on our list.

Best Biker Movies of All Time XIII - Mad Max ('79)

Number 12th movie inspired Mad Max, here we devote the 13th spot to this iconic film. A major hit and a movie that started the apocalyptic theme in action films. The story is about a gang of Aussie bikers on Kawa Z1s who terrorize a post-apocalyptic town that then is saved by a Mad cop named Max. Made for little money, but shot like a major action movie and the rest is history.
